Dear Village Resident: As of February 1, 2010, garbage pick up service will be provided by a new carting contractor, Meadow Carting Corp. of Westbury, NY. The Village's five year contract with Winters Bros. had expired, and under New York State law, had to be publicly re-bid. Meadow Carting was the lowest responsible bidder by a considerable amount, and this will save the Village and the taxpayers a substantial amount of money over the term of the contract. Our prior carter did a fine job servicing the Village, but the Village was obligated by law to award the contract to Meadow Carting Corp. Even though there will be a change of personnel and possibly some inconvenience, the new company has a fine reputation, and we are confident that it will provide good service to our residents. Your pick-up schedule will remain the same for the immediate future. If your regular pick-up days are on Monday and Thursday or on Tuesday and Friday, your days will remain the same. Residents on the south side of Duck Pond Road will continue to be picked up on Tuesdays and Fridays. Recyclables will be picked up on your regular days; recyclables will no longer be picked up on Wednesdays as in the past. In addition, residents can now co-mingle cardboard items such as boxes and paper shopping bags with newspaper since Meadow Carting has sorting facilities that will separate cardboard from newspaper. Large items such as old furniture and appliances will be picked up by prior arrangement on the second of your regular pick-up days. (For example, if your regular pick-up days are on Monday and Thursday, heavy items will be picked up on Thursday). If you should have a large item to dispose of, please contact Mr. Edward F. von Briesen (Village Public Works Commissioner) at 759-7021 to make arrangements. Meadow Carting Corp. requests that if you keep your garbage in the garage, please remember to unlock the door the night before so that the driver can make the pick-up. In addition, please try to have your trash ready for pick-up the night before your scheduled day since the driver begins his route at 6:30 a.m. As previously stated above, the current pick-up schedule will remain in place for the foreseeable future; however, should changes be made in the future, affected residents will be notified by mail, and the announcement will also be posted on the Village website (matinecockvillage.org).
